Mahisadal in Purba Medinipur district is currently represented by Tilak Kumar Chakraborty of the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) in the West Bengal Legislative Assembly. He won the 2021 election with 101,986 votes (46per cent vote share), narrowly defeating BJP’s Biswanath Banerjee’s 99,600 votes (45per cent), by a margin of 2,386 votes. Key issues include irrigation and flood control along the Rupnarayan River for paddy and vegetable farming, road upgrades linking rural GPs to Mahisadal town and Tamluk markets, and drinking water access. Demand for government health centres, schools and local employment in this rural belt are prominent. Tilak Chakraborty succeeded Dr Sudarsan Ghosh Dastidar (TMC 2011, 2016), maintaining the party’s hold since 2011 after CPI(M)’s Tamalika Panda Seth won 2006. Mahisadal falls under the Tamluk Lok Sabha constituency, won by BJP’s Abhijit Gangopadhyay in 2024 by 77,733 votes. The seat’s tight 2021 result and TMC Assembly vs BJP LS split underscore coastal Medinipur’s bipolar contests.
