Ratua is one of the 294 Assembly constituencies in West Bengal, located in Malda district and forming part of the Maldaha Uttar Lok Sabha seat. A general category constituency, it has delivered decisive mandates in recent elections, with notable shifts in party affiliation.
In the 2021 Assembly elections, Ratua had 282,451 registered electors, of whom 219,148 cast valid votes. The seat was won by Trinamool Congress (TMC) candidate Samar Mukherjee, who secured 130,674 votes. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Abishek Singhania finished second with 55,024 votes, trailing by a margin of 75,650 votes.
In the 2016 Assembly elections, the constituency had an electorate of 239,555, with 186,248 valid votes recorded, reflecting a turnout of 77.82 per cent. Indian National Congress candidate Samar Mukherjee won the seat with 96,587 votes. TMC candidate Shehnaz Quadery came second with 53,312 votes, losing by a margin of 43,275 votes.
