Panskura Purba in Purba Medinipur district is currently represented by Biplab Roy Chowdhury of the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) in the West Bengal Legislative Assembly. He won the 2021 election with 91,213 votes (46per cent vote share), defeating BJP’s Debabrata Pattanayak’s 81,553 votes (41per cent), by a margin of 9,660 votes. Key issues include irrigation and flood control for paddy and vegetable farming, road upgrades linking rural GPs to Panskura town and Kolaghat markets, and drinking water access. Demand for health centres, schools, and local employment in this mixed rural‑town belt are prominent. Biplab Roy Chowdhury has held the seat for TMC since 2011, overturning CPI(M)’s hold (Sk Ibrahim Ali won 2016; Amiya Kumar Sahoo 2006), and defended it against BJP’s surge. Panskura Purba falls under the Tamluk Lok Sabha constituency, where BJP’s Abhijit Gangopadhyay won in 2024 by 77,733 votes over TMC.
