Malatipur is one of the 294 Assembly constituencies in West Bengal, located in Malda district and forming part of the Maldaha Uttar Lok Sabha seat. A general category constituency, it has witnessed significant electoral swings in recent years, reflecting changing political loyalties among voters.
In the 2021 Assembly elections, Malatipur had 231,907 registered electors, of whom 185,484 cast valid votes. The seat was won by Trinamool Congress (TMC) candidate Abdur Rahim Boxi, who secured 126,157 votes. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Mousumi Das finished a distant second with 34,208 votes, trailing by a margin of 91,949 votes.
In the 2016 Assembly elections, the constituency had an electorate of 195,163, with 156,939 valid votes recorded, reflecting a turnout of 80.45 per cent. Indian National Congress candidate Alberuni Zulkarnain won the seat with 50,643 votes. Revolutionary Socialist Party candidate Abdur Rahim Boxi came second with 48,043 votes, losing by a narrow margin of 2,600 votes.
