Harischandrapur is one of the 294 Assembly constituencies in West Bengal, located in Malda district and forming part of the Maldaha Uttar Lok Sabha seat. A general category constituency, it has seen notable shifts in political preferences over recent elections.
In the 2021 Assembly elections, Harischandrapur had 252,487 registered electors, of whom 203,153 cast valid votes. The seat was won by Trinamool Congress (TMC) candidate Tajmul Hossain, who secured 122,527 votes. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Md. Matibur Rahaman finished second with 45,054 votes, trailing by a margin of 77,473 votes.
In the 2016 Assembly elections, the constituency had an electorate of 214,992, with 172,048 valid votes recorded, reflecting a turnout of 80.06 per cent. Indian National Congress candidate Alam Mostaque won the seat with 60,047 votes. TMC candidate Tajmul Hossain came second with 42,190 votes, losing by a margin of 17,857 votes.
