Baharampur is one of the 294 Assembly constituencies in West Bengal, located in Murshidabad district and forming part of the Baharampur Lok Sabha seat. A general category constituency, it has witnessed a notable shift in political control across recent elections.
In the 2021 Assembly elections, Baharampur had 260,667 registered electors, of whom 197,607 cast valid votes. The seat was won by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Subrata Maitra, popularly known as “Kanchan,” who secured 89,340 votes. Trinamool Congress (TMC) candidate Naru Gopal Mukherjee finished second with 62,488 votes, trailing by a margin of 26,852 votes.
In the 2016 Assembly elections, the constituency had an electorate of 236,629, with 188,187 valid votes recorded, reflecting a turnout of 79.72 per cent. Indian National Congress candidate Manoj Chakraborty won the seat with 127,762 votes. TMC candidate Dr Sujata Banerjee came second with 35,489 votes, losing by a substantial margin of 92,273 votes.
