Samserganj is one of the 294 Assembly constituencies in West Bengal, located in Murshidabad district and forming part of the Maldaha Dakshin parliamentary seat. A general category constituency, it has witnessed shifting political trends over the past three elections.
In the 2021 Assembly polls, TMC’s Amirul Islam secured a decisive victory with 96,417 votes, accounting for 51.13% of the vote share. Congress candidate Zaidur Rahman came second with 37.14%, while the BJP and CPI(M) trailed significantly. The result marked a strong consolidation of support in favour of the TMC.
Earlier, in 2016, Amirul Islam had won on a much narrower margin, polling 48,381 votes (30.43%), with CPI(M)’s Touab Ali close behind. The contest that year was notably tighter, with an Independent candidate also securing a substantial share. In 2011, however, the seat was won by CPI(M)’s Touab Ali, who defeated Congress candidate Mousumi Begum.
Polling for the 294-member Assembly is scheduled for April 23 and 29, with counting on May 4.
