Farakka is one of the Assembly constituencies in West Bengal, located in Murshidabad district and forming part of the Maldaha Dakshin Lok Sabha seat. A general category constituency, it has seen shifts in political control in recent elections, reflecting changing voter preferences.
In the 2021 Assembly elections, Farakka had 227,549 registered electors, of whom 186,424 cast valid votes. The seat was won by Trinamool Congress (TMC) candidate Manirul Islam, who secured 102,319 votes. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Hemanta Ghosh finished second with 42,374 votes, trailing by a margin of 59,945 votes.
In the 2016 Assembly elections, the constituency had an electorate of 192,011, with 163,198 valid votes recorded, reflecting a turnout of 85.04 per cent. Indian National Congress candidate Mainul Haque won the seat with 83,314 votes. TMC candidate Md. Mustafa came second with 55,147 votes, losing by a margin of 28,167 votes.
