Sujapur is an Assembly constituency in West Bengal’s Malda district and forms part of the Maldaha Dakshin Lok Sabha seat. A general category constituency, it has witnessed a sharp turnaround in electoral outcomes in recent years, with voters delivering decisive mandates to different parties across successive elections.
In the 2021 Assembly elections, Sujapur had 251,186 registered electors, of whom 207,591 cast valid votes. The seat was won by Trinamool Congress (TMC) candidate Md. Abdul Ghani, who secured a commanding 152,445 votes. Indian National Congress candidate Isha Khan Choudhury finished a distant second with 22,282 votes, trailing by a margin of 130,163 votes.
In the 2016 Assembly elections, the constituency had an electorate of 210,287, with 166,496 valid votes recorded, reflecting a turnout of 79.2 per cent. Indian National Congress candidate Isha Khan Choudhury won the seat with 97,332 votes. TMC candidate Abu Nasar Khan Choudhury came second with 50,252 votes, losing by a margin of 47,080 votes.
