Champdani is an urban-industrial constituency in Hooghly district, part of the Hooghly-Chinsurah riverfront cluster north of Kolkata. The area historically had a strong jute and textile industry base, and while deindustrialisation has affected the local economy, the constituency remains working-class in character. TMC has maintained a comfortable hold over the seat in recent elections.
In the 2021 West Bengal Assembly elections, the seat was won by Arindam Guin of the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC). He secured victory over the nearest rival from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) by a margin of 30,078 votes. The result reflected the broader political alignment in the constituency and underlined the dominant party's organisational strength in the area.
Industrial employment and revival of the once-thriving jute industry are central issues for Champdani voters. Civic infrastructure — particularly drainage, sewerage and road conditions in densely populated urban areas — is a persistent concern. Access to healthcare and affordable education for working-class families are consistently raised. Welfare scheme delivery and law and order are also important voter concerns ahead of the 2026 election. The 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections are shaping up as a high-stakes contest between the ruling All India Trinamool Congress (AITC), led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which is seeking to make major inroads into the state. With anti-incumbency, law-and-order concerns and welfare delivery all playing a role, every constituency is expected to be closely watched. Trinamool Congress has fielded Arindam Guin while BJP has fielded Dilip Singh for the 2026 election.
