Arambag, a Scheduled Caste-reserved constituency in Hooghly district, is the headquarters town of the Arambag subdivision and represents a mix of urban market activity and surrounding agricultural villages. The constituency spans a diverse terrain and is one of the important administrative and commercial centres of western Hooghly. BJP held the seat narrowly in 2021.
In the 2021 West Bengal Assembly elections, the seat was won by Madhusudan Bag of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He secured victory over the nearest rival from the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) by a margin of 7,172 votes. The result reflected the broader political alignment in the constituency and underlined the dominant party's organisational strength in the area.
Welfare for Scheduled Caste communities — including housing schemes, employment reservations and welfare entitlements — is a central issue in Arambag (SC). Agricultural support and rural road connectivity are important demands from the rural parts of the constituency. Urban civic amenities for the Arambag town market area are also a concern. Employment, healthcare access and effective governance are key voter priorities heading into 2026. The 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections are shaping up as a high-stakes contest between the ruling All India Trinamool Congress (AITC), led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which is seeking to make major inroads into the state. With anti-incumbency, law-and-order concerns and welfare delivery all playing a role, every constituency is expected to be closely watched. Trinamool Congress has fielded Mita Bag while BJP has fielded Hemanta Bag for the 2026 election.
