Mothabari is one of the Assembly constituencies in West Bengal, located in Malda district and forming part of the Maldaha Dakshin Lok Sabha seat. A general category constituency, it has shown shifts in party alignment while maintaining some continuity in leadership over recent elections.
In the 2021 Assembly elections, Mothabari had 196,324 registered electors, of whom 163,143 cast valid votes. The seat was won by Trinamool Congress (TMC) candidate Yeasmin Sabina, who secured 97,397 votes. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Shyamchand Ghosh finished second with 40,824 votes, trailing by a margin of 56,573 votes.
In the 2016 Assembly elections, the constituency had an electorate of 166,513, with 133,423 valid votes recorded, reflecting a turnout of 80.15 per cent. Indian National Congress candidate Yeasmin Sabina won the seat with 69,089 votes. TMC candidate Md. Najrul Islam came second with 30,915 votes, losing by a margin of 38,174 votes.
