Jagatballavpur in Howrah district is currently represented by Sitanath Ghosh of the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) in the West Bengal Legislative Assembly. He won the 2021 election with 1,16,562 votes (49per cent vote share), defeating BJP’s Anupam Ghosh’s 87,366 votes (37per cent), by a margin of 29,196 votes. Key issues include road connectivity and drainage in peri‑urban areas like Baragachhia, Hantal, Pantihal and Shankarhati GPs, irrigation for paddy and vegetables, and drinking water supply. Demand for more government health centres, schools, and local jobs amid suburban expansion towards Kolkata is also prominent. Sitanath Ghosh took over from TMC’s Md Abdul Ghani (2016), building on the party’s dominance since 2011 after decades of CPI(M) control (Biplab Majumdar won 2006; M Ansaruddin multiple terms 1977–1996). It falls under the Sreerampur Lok Sabha constituency, held by TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee in 2024 with a 1,74,830‑vote margin.
