Chandrakona (SC), Assembly Constituency No. 232, lies in Paschim Medinipur district within South Bengal's fertile alluvial plains of the Ghatal subdivision, encompassing Chandrakona municipality, Chandrakona I & II community development blocks, Ramjibanpur and Khirpai municipalities, and Niz Narajol gram panchayat of Daspur I block. A predominantly rural SC-reserved constituency (~34per cent SC) supporting rice-centric agrarian communities across its rural landscape with urban pockets and over 268,000 voters reliant on multi-cropping amid seasonal flooding from the Silai and Rupnarayan rivers.Flood management, irrigation canals, rural job scarcity, agrarian debt burdens, poor road networks, and erratic power-water supply dominate voter concerns, amplified by Jangalmahal-fringe land disputes and post-Naxal underdevelopment. Bipolar AITC-BJP rivalry post-2011 delimitation supplanted CPI(M)'s decades-long hold (Gurupada Dutta 1996–2006), featuring 91.9per cent high turnout in polarized SC-rural contests under Arambagh (SC) Lok Sabha. In the 2021 elections, AITC's Arup Dhara defeated BJP's challenger by 11,281 votes (~4.6per cent margin from 246,409 total votes), consolidating after Chhaya Dolai's 2016 victory. Comfortably marginal AITC seat with steady hold amid BJP gains; strategically anchors Paschim Medinipur's western segment and Arambagh SC Lok Sabha dynamics.
