Raniganj is a General category Assembly constituency located in West Bengal’s Bardhaman district. It is one of the seven Assembly segments that fall under the Asansol Lok Sabha constituency.
At present, Tapas Banerjee of the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) is the sitting MLA from Raniganj. He won the seat in the 2021 Assembly election by securing 42.9 per cent of the total votes polled. He was followed by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate, who received 40.95 per cent of the votes.
Earlier, the constituency was won by Runu Dutta of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPM) in 2016. In 2011, Ali Sohrab of AITC had secured victory in the seat.
