Howrah Dakshin is an assembly seat numbered 173 in Howrah district, West Bengal. It forms part of the Howrah Lok Sabha constituency and covers specific wards (Nos. 35, 38-41, 44-46) of Howrah Municipal Corporation along with gram panchayats like Duila, Jorhat, Panchpara, and Thanamakua from Sankrail CD block. This mixed urban-rural constituency features high population density opposite Kolkata across the Hooghly River, with around 294,099 total electors. It has minimal SC/ST reservations and saw 73.58per cent voter turnout in recent elections. In the 2021 election, AITC's Nandita Chowdhury won decisively, securing a majority over BJP's Sahana Guha Roy who received 16,277 votes (8.30per cent share). NOTA polled 3,816 votes (1.95per cent), BSP 1,249 votes (0.64per cent), with AITC maintaining its hold.
