Ketugram is a rural assembly constituency in Purba Bardhaman district, located in the eastern part of the district with a significant minority population. The constituency has a predominantly agricultural character, with paddy cultivation and river-based livelihoods alongside small trade. It has been held by the Trinamool Congress in recent elections.
In the 2021 West Bengal Assembly elections, the seat was won by Sekh Sahonawez of the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC). He secured victory over the nearest rival from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) by a margin of 12,683 votes. The result reflected the broader political alignment in the constituency and underlined the dominant party's organisational strength in the area.
Agricultural welfare, flood management and rural road connectivity are the dominant concerns in Ketugram. Minority welfare — including access to educational institutions, welfare schemes and healthcare — is an important local issue. Employment for youth, particularly outside agriculture, and livelihood diversification are key concerns. Governance, welfare scheme delivery and peace and stability are also important voter priorities. The 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections are shaping up as a high-stakes contest between the ruling All India Trinamool Congress (AITC), led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which is seeking to make major inroads into the state. With anti-incumbency, law-and-order concerns and welfare delivery all playing a role, every constituency is expected to be closely watched. Trinamool Congress has fielded Sekh Sahonawez for the 2026 election.
