Barbani is a General category Assembly constituency located in West Bengal’s Bardhaman district. It is one of the seven Assembly segments that fall under the Asansol Lok Sabha constituency.
At present, Bidhan Upadhyay of the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) is the sitting MLA from Barbani. He won the seat in the 2021 Assembly election by securing 52.27 per cent of the total votes polled. He was followed by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate, who received 38.4 per cent of the votes.
Bidhan Upadhyay has held the constituency for multiple terms. He also won the seat in the 2016 and 2011 Assembly elections as an AITC candidate.
The election history shows that Barbani has remained under AITC’s control for several consecutive elections, reflecting consistent voter support for the party in the constituency.
