Madarihat (ST) is a Scheduled Tribe–reserved assembly constituency located in Alipurduar district of West Bengal. Situated in the Dooars region, the constituency is known for its tea gardens, forest areas, and proximity to key wildlife zones such as Jaldapara. The electorate comprises a significant tribal population along with other rural communities dependent on tea plantation work, agriculture, tourism, and small-scale trade. Political contests in Madarihat have gained prominence as voting patterns in north Bengal have shown notable changes over recent elections.
In the 2021 West Bengal Assembly elections, Madarihat (ST) was won by Manoj Tigga of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He defeated his nearest rival from the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) by a margin of 34,000 votes (approximate). The victory was considered decisive and reflected the BJP’s expanding influence across several tribal-dominated constituencies in the Dooars region during that election cycle.
Key issues in Madarihat (ST) largely revolve around livelihood security and development. Tea garden workers frequently highlight concerns related to wages, job stability, housing, and access to healthcare facilities. Irregular employment and economic uncertainty remain persistent challenges.
