Suvendu Adhikari CM Oath Ceremony: BJP's ideology gained recognition in West Bengal; change of power to bring development, says Gadkari
Union minister Nitin Gadkari on Saturday described the BJP’s emphatic victory in West Bengal as evidence that the party’s ideology has gained widespread acceptance in the state. Speaking before leaving for Kolkata to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Suvendu Adhikari as Chief Minister, Gadkari said the political shift would accelerate Bengal’s future development.
The BJP won 207 seats in the 294-member Assembly, ending the 15-year rule of the All India Trinamool Congress and marking its biggest breakthrough in eastern India. Adhikari, who defeated Mamata Banerjee in Bhabanipur, became the state’s first BJP Chief Minister. Gadkari dedicated the victory to Bharatiya Jana Sangh founder Syama Prasad Mookerjee, saying his ideology had finally found strong support in Bengal.
