Englishbazar is one of the 294 Assembly constituencies in West Bengal, located in Malda district and forming part of the Maldaha Dakshin Lok Sabha seat. A general category constituency, it has delivered decisive electoral outcomes in recent years, reflecting strong competition among major political parties.
In the 2021 Assembly elections, Englishbazar had 275,296 registered electors, of whom 215,675 cast valid votes. The seat was won by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Sreerupa Mitra Chaudhury, popularly known as “Nirbhoy Didi,” who secured 107,755 votes. Trinamool Congress (TMC) candidate Krishnendu Narayan Choudhury finished second with 87,656 votes, trailing by a margin of 20,099 votes.
In the 2016 Assembly elections, the constituency had an electorate of 246,790, with 207,238 valid votes recorded, reflecting a turnout of 84.1 per cent. Independent candidate Nihar Ranjan Ghosh won the seat with 107,183 votes. TMC candidate Krishnendu Narayan Choudhury came second with 67,456 votes, losing by a margin of 39,727 votes.
