Sreerampur (also known as Serampore) is a historically significant urban constituency in Hooghly district, famous for its Danish colonial heritage and as a centre of early Bengali printing and education. The constituency is part of the greater Kolkata conurbation along the Hooghly river and has a mixed electorate of professionals, traders, industrial workers and students.
In the 2021 West Bengal Assembly elections, the seat was won by Sudipto Roy of the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC). He secured victory over the nearest rival from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) by a margin of 23,433 votes. The result reflected the broader political alignment in the constituency and underlined the dominant party's organisational strength in the area.
Preservation of heritage structures, urban civic infrastructure and industrial revival are key concerns in Sreerampur. The constituency's educated and urban electorate raises issues around quality education, healthcare access and employment in formal sectors. Transport connectivity — particularly local train services and road conditions — is a major voter concern. Law and order, good governance and welfare delivery are also significant political themes. The 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections are shaping up as a high-stakes contest between the ruling All India Trinamool Congress (AITC), led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which is seeking to make major inroads into the state. With anti-incumbency, law-and-order concerns and welfare delivery all playing a role, every constituency is expected to be closely watched. Trinamool Congress has fielded Tanmoy Ghosh while BJP has fielded Bhaskar Bhattacharya for the 2026 election.
