Alipurduars is a general (unreserved) assembly constituency in Alipurduar district of West Bengal. The area includes Alipurduar municipality, the railway junction, and several gram panchayats from the surrounding blocks. The constituency lies close to the Bhutan border and features a mix of urban and rural populations engaged in trade, services, agriculture and informal economic activities. It is part of the Alipurduars Lok Sabha seat.
In the 2021 West Bengal Assembly elections, the seat was won by Suman Kanjilal. He contested as a candidate of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and defeated Sourav Chakraborty of the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) by a margin of about 16,007 votes. Kanjilal secured over 1,07,000 votes compared with around 91,000 for the runner-up, marking a clear victory in a constituency that had seen earlier representation by different parties.
Key issues in Alipurduars reflect both development and everyday needs of voters. Infrastructure improvement is a recurring concern, with calls for better roads, reliable public transport, improved drainage and stable electricity supply across both urban and rural pockets. Many residents emphasise the need for enhanced healthcare services and quality educational facilities, with people often travelling outside the constituency to access specialised care or higher education.
