Bharatpur is one of the 294 Assembly constituencies in West Bengal, located in Murshidabad district and forming part of the Baharampur Lok Sabha seat. A general category constituency, it has witnessed shifts in political control over recent elections, reflecting changing voter preferences.
In the 2021 Assembly elections, Bharatpur had 243,603 registered electors, of whom 189,047 cast valid votes. The seat was won by Trinamool Congress (TMC) candidate Humayun Kabir, who secured 96,226 votes. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Iman Kalyan Mukherjee finished second with 53,143 votes, trailing by a margin of 43,083 votes.
In the 2016 Assembly elections, the constituency had an electorate of 215,850, with 165,263 valid votes recorded, reflecting a turnout of 76.63 per cent. Indian National Congress candidate Kamalesh Chatterjee (Gopal) won the seat with 59,789 votes. TMC candidate Khadem A. Dastegir (Khadu) came second with 48,772 votes, losing by a margin of 11,017 votes.
