Chanditala is a semi-urban constituency in Hooghly district, located along the National Highway corridor between Kolkata and Durgapur. The area has a mix of residential localities, small commercial centres and agricultural villages. Its position along a major highway makes it an important transit corridor and gives it a semi-industrial character. TMC has held the seat in recent elections.
In the 2021 West Bengal Assembly elections, the seat was won by Swati Khandoker of the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC). She secured victory over the nearest rival from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The result reflected the broader political alignment in the constituency and underlined the dominant party's organisational strength in the area.
Road connectivity, traffic management and infrastructure along the highway corridor are key concerns in Chanditala. Employment in the small industries and trading establishments along the National Highway is an important economic issue. Agricultural support, rural road development and access to healthcare are demands from the rural pockets of the constituency. Welfare scheme delivery and governance are also significant voter concerns. The 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections are shaping up as a high-stakes contest between the ruling All India Trinamool Congress (AITC), led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which is seeking to make major inroads into the state. With anti-incumbency, law-and-order concerns and welfare delivery all playing a role, every constituency is expected to be closely watched. Trinamool Congress has fielded Swati Khandoker while BJP has fielded Debasish Mukherjee for the 2026 election.
