Udaynarayanpur in Howrah district is currently represented by Samir Kumar Panja of the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) in the West Bengal Legislative Assembly. He won the 2021 election with 101,510 votes (51.21per cent vote share), defeating BJP’s Sumit Ranjan Karar’s 87,512 votes (44.15per cent), by a margin of 13,998 votes. Key issues include irrigation and drainage for paddy and vegetable farming across Udaynarayanpur CDB and parts of Amta‑I, better rural roads and bridges, and drinking water security. Demand for expanded government health and education facilities, along with non‑farm employment to supplement agriculture, is a prominent local concern in this rural belt. Samir Panja has held the seat for TMC since 2011, overturning decades of CPI(M) dominance (Chandra Lekha Bag won 2006; earlier, Pannalal Maji), and defended it in 2021 against a strong BJP surge. It falls under the Uluberia Lok Sabha constituency, retained by TMC’s Sajda Ahmed in 2024 by 2,18,673 votes, reinforcing party alignment.
