Nalhati is a General category Assembly constituency located in West Bengal’s Birbhum district. It is one of the seven Assembly segments that fall under the Birbhum Lok Sabha constituency. The seat is part of the state’s 294 Assembly constituencies and has seen electoral contests among major political parties.
At present, Rajendra Prasad Singh (Raju Singh) of the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) is the sitting MLA from Nalhati. He won the seat in the 2021 Assembly election by securing 56.55 per cent of the total votes polled. He was followed by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate, who received 29.15 per cent of the votes.
Earlier, the constituency was also represented by AITC in the 2016 Assembly election, when Moinuddin Shams secured victory. In 2011, the seat was won by Abhijit Mukherjee of the Indian National Congress (INC).
