Diamond Harbour Assembly constituency is located in the South 24 Parganas district of West Bengal and forms part of the Diamond Harbour Lok Sabha constituency. The area falls under the Diamond Harbour subdivision, with the town serving as its administrative headquarters. In the 2021 West Bengal Assembly elections, Pannalal Halder of the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) secured 98,478 votes, defeating BJP candidate Dipak Kumar Halder by a margin of 16,996 votes. In 2016, Dipak Kumar Halder, then contesting on an AITC ticket, won the seat with 96,833 votes, defeating CPI(M)’s Dr Abul Hasnat by 15,037 votes. The town of Diamond Harbour, earlier known as Hajipur due to its location along the Hajipur creek, was renamed during British rule. It developed as an important river and sea transit point under the colonial administration. At the parliamentary level, the constituency has been represented by Abhishek Banerjee of the AITC. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, he won with 7,91,127 votes, defeating BJP’s Nilanjan Roy by 3,20,594 votes. In 2014, Banerjee secured 5,08,481 votes and defeated CPI(M)’s Dr. Abul Hasnat by 71,298 votes.
