Tamluk in Purba Medinipur district is currently represented by Dr. Saumen Kumar Mahapatra of the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) in the West Bengal Legislative Assembly. He won the 2021 election with 1,08,243 votes (45.9per cent vote share), narrowly defeating BJP’s Harekrishna Bera’s 1,07,450 votes (45.5per cent), by a razor‑thin margin of 793 votes. Key issues include irrigation and flood control along the Rupnarayan River, better roads and markets for paddy, betel leaf and vegetable farmers, and drinking water security. Demand for health centres, schools and employment in rural Tamluk CDB amid urbanising pockets is prominent. Dr. Mahapatra switched from CPI (won 2016 as Ashok Dinda’s successor) to TMC for 2021, flipping a Left seat into a TMC hold after Nirbed Roy’s 2011 win. Tamluk falls under the Tamluk Lok Sabha constituency, where BJP’s Abhijit Gangopadhyay defeated TMC’s Dibyendu Adhikari in 2024 by 77,733 votes.
