Bidhannagar is a fully urban Assembly constituency centred on Salt Lake City, a planned township in West Bengal where the Trinamool Congress has dominated Assembly elections, while the Bharatiya Janata Party has made significant gains in Lok Sabha contests.
In the 2021 Assembly elections, the Bidhannagar constituency had a total of 2,43,360 electors, with 1,62,035 valid votes cast. Trinamool Congress candidate Sujit Bose won the seat with 75,912 votes. Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Sabyasachi Dutta finished second with 67,915 votes, losing by a margin of 7,997 votes.
In the 2016 Assembly elections, the constituency had 2,26,897 electors and recorded 1,54,303 valid votes. Trinamool Congress candidate Sujit Bose won the seat with 66,130 votes. Indian National Congress candidate Arunava Ghosh secured 59,142 votes and lost by 6,988 votes.
