Dhupguri (SC) is a Scheduled Caste–reserved assembly constituency located in Jalpaiguri district of West Bengal. Situated in the Dooars region of north Bengal, the constituency has a mix of semi-urban and rural areas. Agriculture, small businesses, and tea garden–linked livelihoods contribute significantly to the local economy. Dhupguri has emerged as a politically important seat in recent years, particularly as electoral trends in north Bengal have become increasingly competitive.
In the 2021 West Bengal Assembly elections, the constituency was won by Bishnu Pada Ray of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He defeated his nearest rival from the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) by a margin of 3,948 votes. The narrow margin highlighted the closely contested nature of the election and indicated a sharply divided voter base. Following the death of the sitting MLA, a by-election was later held in 2023.
In the 2023 bypoll, the seat was won by Nirmal Chandra Roy of the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC), who secured a clear victory over the BJP candidate. The by-election result shifted the constituency back to the ruling party, underscoring Dhupguri’s evolving political dynamics.
Key issues in Dhupguri (SC) revolve around infrastructure, employment, and agrarian concerns. Residents frequently raise demands for better roads, drainage systems, drinking water supply, and reliable electricity. Farmers and agricultural workers emphasise the need for improved irrigation, crop support, and protection from flood-related damage.
