Murshidabad is one of the 294 Assembly constituencies in West Bengal, located in Murshidabad district and forming part of the Murshidabad Lok Sabha seat. A general category constituency, it has witnessed closely contested elections and shifts in party control in recent years.
In the 2021 Assembly elections, Murshidabad had 268,221 registered electors, of whom 229,231 cast valid votes. The seat was won by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Gouri Sankar Ghosh, who secured 95,967 votes. Trinamool Congress (TMC) candidate Shaoni Singha Roy finished a close second with 93,476 votes, trailing by a narrow margin of 2,491 votes.
In the 2016 Assembly elections, the constituency had an electorate of 235,052, with 201,150 valid votes recorded, reflecting a turnout of 85.58 per cent. Indian National Congress candidate Shaoni Singha Roy won the seat with 94,579 votes. TMC candidate Ashim Krishna Bhatta came second with 69,440 votes, losing by a margin of 25,139 votes.
