Howrah Madhya is an assembly seat numbered 171 in Howrah district, West Bengal. It forms part of the Howrah Lok Sabha constituency and covers central wards (Nos. 17-20, 24-34, 36-37, 42) of Howrah Municipal Corporation in a densely populated urban setting.The constituency is entirely urban with 223,616 electors as per recent rolls, featuring high residential and commercial density opposite Kolkata across the Hooghly River. It has minimal SC (3.39per cent) and ST (0.1per cent) populations, with voter turnout at 74.11per cent in 2021. In the 2021 election, AITC's Arup Roy (Apu) won with 95,677 votes (57.16per cent share), defeating BJP's Sanjay Singh (65,007 votes, 33.31per cent) by a margin of 30,670 votes. INC's Palash Bhandari received 12,942 votes (6.63per cent), NOTA 2,735 votes (1.40per cent), and others less than 1per cent each.West Bengal has 294 assembly seats total.
