Uluberia Uttar (SC) in Howrah district is currently represented by Dr Nirmal Maji of the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) in the West Bengal Assembly. He retained the seat in the 2021 assembly election, defeating the BJP’s Chiran Bera by 21,003 votes, polling 91,501 votes against 70,498. Key local issues include rural–urban infrastructure gaps, with about 58.7per cent of the constituency’s 2.77 lakh population living in rural areas and 41.3per cent in urban pockets, creating uneven access to roads, drainage and civic services. High dependence on informal employment and relatively low industrial diversification around Uluberia add to economic insecurity, while pressure on education, health and drinking water infrastructure remains a recurring concern flagged in socio‑economic assessments. Uniquely, Uluberia Uttar is a Scheduled Caste–reserved seat with SCs forming roughly 32.4per cent of the population, giving caste‑linked welfare schemes and social justice politics significant salience. The constituency falls under the Uluberia Lok Sabha seat and had over 2.33 lakh registered electors by 2024, with voter turnout above 82per cent in the 2021 assembly polls, indicating a politically mobilised electorate.
