Lawmakers sought documents and testimony regarding Omar’s alleged ties to individuals connected to the case, prompting a failed subpoena effort in the Republican-led committee. Committee Chair Kristin Robbins claimed Omar played a role in creating conditions that allowed the fraud to explode after passage of the MEALS Act in 2020. Omar has not been charged with wrongdoing, and the subpoena vote ultimately fell short by one vote.
