Pandua is a semi-rural constituency in Hooghly district, lying between the major urban centres of Burdwan and Hooghly. The constituency has a mixed character of small townships and agricultural villages, with residents engaged in farming, trade and local services. Pandua has been held comfortably by the Trinamool Congress in recent elections.
In the 2021 West Bengal Assembly elections, the seat was won by Ratna De Nag of the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC). She secured victory over the nearest rival from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) by a margin of 31,858 votes. The result reflected the broader political alignment in the constituency and underlined the dominant party's organisational strength in the area.
Rural infrastructure — roads, drinking water supply and healthcare access — remains a key concern for Pandua voters. Agricultural support, crop pricing and irrigation development are important demands from the farming community. Employment, particularly non-agricultural jobs for youth, is a significant concern. Welfare scheme delivery, particularly for women and economically weaker sections, and local governance are key political themes. The 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections are shaping up as a high-stakes contest between the ruling All India Trinamool Congress (AITC), led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which is seeking to make major inroads into the state. With anti-incumbency, law-and-order concerns and welfare delivery all playing a role, every constituency is expected to be closely watched. Trinamool Congress has fielded Samir Chakraborty (Bua) while BJP has fielded Tushar Kumar Majumdar for the 2026 election.
