Chanchal is one of the 294 Assembly constituencies in West Bengal, located in Malda district and forming part of the Maldaha Uttar Lok Sabha seat. A general category constituency, it has seen decisive electoral outcomes in recent years, reflecting significant shifts in voter support.
In the 2021 Assembly elections, Chanchal had 249,402 registered electors, of whom 199,679 cast valid votes. The seat was won by Trinamool Congress (TMC) candidate Nihar Ranjan Ghosh, who secured 115,966 votes. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Dipankar Ram (Bankat) finished second with 48,628 votes, trailing by a margin of 67,338 votes.
In the 2016 Assembly elections, the constituency had an electorate of 217,595, with 172,154 valid votes recorded, reflecting a turnout of 79.12 per cent. Indian National Congress candidate Asif Mehbub won the seat with 92,590 votes. TMC candidate Soumitra Ray came second with 40,222 votes, losing by a margin of 52,368 votes.
