Aranmula Assembly constituency is a general seat in Pathanamthitta district, Kerala, encompassing Aranmula Municipality, Kozhencherry, and rural panchayats like Malayalapuzha and Kidangannur, renowned for its cultural heritage including the Aranmula Parthasarathy Temple and boat races that shape local politics alongside a diverse Hindu-Christian population. The current MLA is Veena George from CPI(M), elected in 2021 after securing 74,950 votes (46.30per cent), defeating INC's K. Sivadasan Nair with 55,947 votes (34.56per cent), yielding a decisive margin of 19,003 votes amid 65.45per cent turnout. Key issues include recurrent Pamba River flooding devastating paddy fields, rubber estates, and banana plantations central to agrarian livelihoods, poor road infrastructure causing traffic snarls near temple routes and markets, erratic water supply in rural pockets despite Achankovil irrigation delays, youth unemployment amid fluctuating Gulf remittances, overburdened PHCs and distant specialty hospitals, illegal quarrying eroding hills and polluting rivers, waste accumulation from tourism spikes, frequent monsoon power cuts disrupting small industries, rising land costs from realty boom squeezing farmers, inadequate public transport on hilly terrains, and environmental degradation from deforestation near Sabarimala pilgrimage paths straining this temple-town economy, as this LDF stronghold navigates faith, development, and Kerala's civic pressures.
