Situated in Kerala's Thrissur district amid verdant paddy fields and rural hamlets, the Puthukkad Assembly constituency occupies the 71st rank among the state's 140 legislative seats, integral to the Thrissur Lok Sabha region. This general seat galvanizes over 200,000 voters from a rural Hindu-Ezhava-dominated populace with notable SC presence, achieving turnouts around 77-78per cent, encompassing Puthukkad, Parappukkara, Nenmanikkara, and Vallachira grama panchayats in central Kerala's agricultural heartland. It exemplifies CPI(M)'s consistent LDF dominance since the 2011 delimitation, capitalizing on farm communities against UDF's Congress challenges. In the 2021 Kerala Assembly elections, CPI(M)'s K.K. Ramachandran triumphed with 73,365 votes (46.94per cent), defeating INC's Sunil Anthikad's 46,012 votes (29.44per cent) by a commanding 27,353-vote margin amid 77.74per cent turnout from 200,930 electors. The 2016 contest saw CPI(M)'s C. Raveendranath secure 74,311 votes (46.85per cent), outpacing BJP's A. Nagesh's 35,833 votes (22.58per cent) by 38,478 votes from 158,721 voters, establishing back-to-back LDF victories in this new constituency.
