Embedded in Kerala's Malappuram district, the Vengara Assembly constituency occupies the 41st slot among the state's 140 legislative seats, anchoring the Malappuram Lok Sabha landscape. This general seat galvanizes over 210,000 voters from a robust Muslim-majority base, registering turnouts above 70per cent, and spans Vengara grama panchayat alongside adjacent areas in north Kerala. It exemplifies IUML's impenetrable fortress within the UDF framework, dictating the tempo of regional electoral showdowns. In the 2021 Kerala Assembly elections, IUML's P.K. Kunhalikutty commanded 70,381 votes at 53.50per cent, decisively outstripping CPI(M)'s P. Jiji's 39,785 votes (30.24per cent) by a substantial 30,596-vote margin from the electorate. The 2016 contest, including its bypoll echo, saw IUML's Kunhalikutty and successor K.N.A. Khader secure victories with margins of 38,057 and 23,310 votes respectively against CPI(M) foes, drawing from around 190,000 voters and reinforcing the party's iron grip. As 2026 looms, Vengara's chronicle of IUML triumphs since inception thrives on unwavering community allegiance and local priorities like education and infrastructure.
