Aluva is a constituency located in Ernakulam district and is numbered 76 among the state’s 140 assembly seats. The constituency came into existence in 1957, following the formation of Kerala state. It falls under the Chalakudy Lok Sabha constituency for parliamentary elections. Over the years, Aluva has witnessed contests mainly between the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) and the Left Democratic Front (LDF), with the Indian National Congress emerging as the dominant party in recent elections. The current MLA is Anwar Sadath (INC), who was re-elected in the 2021 Kerala Assembly elections. He secured 73,703 votes and won by a margin of 18,886 votes over his nearest rival. Sadath has represented the constituency since 2011. Key issues in Aluva include urban infrastructure development, recurring flood management concerns due to its proximity to the Periyar river, traffic congestion, and delays in major civic projects such as the new municipal market complex. As a fast-growing urban and semi-urban segment near Kochi, development planning and public amenities remain central electoral concerns.
