NDA, BJP lead in Assam, Puducherry and West Bengal as counting progresses
Across four states going to the polls, counting is well underway in Assam, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, and Puducherry, with leads shifting seat by seat. In Assam, where 64 seats are needed for a majority in the 126-seat assembly, NDA holds a tally of 97, having won 28 and leading in 69, comfortably crossing the majority mark if these leads hold. Congress and its allies are trailing with a tally of 22, all in leads. Candidates from other parties and independents cumulatively account for a tally of 7 in Assam. In Tamil Nadu, where the majority mark is 118 in a 234-seat house, SPA has a tally of 60, with 7 won and 53 leading. NDA trails with a tally of 55, all in leads. Candidates from other parties and independents cumulatively lead in 105 seats and have won 10, putting their tally at 115, just 3 short of the majority mark. In West Bengal, BJP is leading in enough seats to cross the majority mark of 148 in the 294-seat assembly, with 11 won and 168 leading for a tally of 179. TMC is trailing with a tally of 106, comprising 2 won and 104 leading. Candidates from other parties and independents cumulatively hold a tally of 8 in West Bengal. In Puducherry, where 16 seats decide a majority in the 30-seat assembly, NDA has crossed the majority mark on tally with 13 won and 5 leading for a combined tally of 18. SPA has a tally of 5, with 2 won and 3 leading. Candidates from other parties and independents cumulatively account for a tally of 7 in Puducherry.
