Ossudu, one of the 30 assembly constituencies in Puducherry, is reserved for Scheduled Caste candidates. It forms part of the Union territory’s sole Lok Sabha constituency, also named Puducherry. In the 2021 assembly election, BJP’s AK Sarvanankumar wrested the Ossudu seat from the Congress, defeating Congress’ P Karthikeyan by a narrow margin of 1,880 votes. In 2016, when Congress’ E Theppainthan claimed the seat by 2,330 votes, while Sarvanankumar was the runner-up. In 2021, Ossudu had 30,571 registered electors, of whom 28,538 cast their votes. Assembly elections for all 30 Puducherry assembly constituencies are expected in April.
