Ozhukarai is one of the 30 assembly constituencies in Puducherry, the Union territory where assembly polls are expected in April. The constituency forms part of Puducherry’s sole Lok Sabha seat, also called Puducherry. In 2021, Ozhukarai had 40,656 registered electors, of whom 32,266 voted. Independent candidate M Sivasankar won the seat by a narrow margin of 819 votes, defeating 2011 winner NG Pannir Selvam of the All India NR Congress. In 2016, MNR Balan of the Congress won the constituency and later served as the deputy speaker of the Puducherry assembly.
