Embalam is a Scheduled Caste-reserved assembly constituency in Puducherry. In the 2021 assembly elections, U Lakshminandhan of the All India NR Congress was elected, defeating Congress’ M Kandaswamy by 2,240 votes. This marked a reversal from 2016, when Kandaswamy had prevailed over Lakshminandhan by 11,200 votes. Embalam forms part of Puducherry, the Union territory’s only Lok Sabha segment, also called Puducherry. In the 2021 polls, the constituency had 33,340 registered voters, of whom 30,530 cast their votes.
