Puducherry’s Mangalam assembly constituency is currently represented by C Djeacoumar of the All India NR Congress, a minister in the Union territory’s NDA coalition government. In the 2021 assembly election, Mangalam recorded a voter turnout of 89.2per cent, with 32,986 of the 36,977 registered electors casting their votes. Djeacoumar defeated DMK’s Sun Kumaravel by 2,751 votes to retain the seat for his party, though with a narrower margin than the 5,563 votes by which SV Sugumaran had beaten Kumaravel in 2016. Assembly elections for all 30 Puducherry constituencies are expected to be held in April.
