Karaikal South assembly constituency was won by DMK candidate AMH Nazeem by a margin of over 12,000 votes in the 2021 Puducherry assembly polls, one of the largest victory margins recorded that year. Nazeem defeated AIADMK’s KAU Asana, reversing the outcome of the 2016 polls, when Asana had edged past Nazeem by a razor-thin margin of just 20 votes. Earlier, in 2011, Nazeem had won the seat by 1,576 votes. Part of Puducherry’s lone Lok Sabha constituency, also called Puducherry, Karaikal South had 30,638 registered voters in the 2021 elections, of whom 24,235 cast their ballots.
