Villianur, one of the 30 constituencies of the Puducherry legislative assembly, is currently represented by R Siva of the DMK, who serves as the Union territory’s leader of the opposition. In the 2021 assembly election, Siva won the seat by a margin of 6,950 votes, defeating All India NR Congress’ SV Sugumaran. That year, Vilianur had 40,792 registered electors, of whom 34,788 cast their votes. In the 2011 and 2016 elections, Puducherry minister and BJP leader A Namassivayam—then with the Congress—had won the seat by 1,541 and 8,281 votes, respectively. Assembly elections for all 30 Puducherry constituencies are expected to be held in April.
