Nedungadu has been a Scheduled Caste–reserved assembly constituency in Puducherry since 1974 and has been held by the ruling All India NR Congress since 2011. The sitting MLA is S Chandra Priyanga, who also won the seat in 2016. In the 2021 assembly elections, she defeated Congress candidate A Mariamuthu by a margin of 2,214 votes, following her 2016 victory over Congress’ A Marimottou by 1,094 votes. Part of the Union territory’s lone Lok Sabha constituency, also called Puducherry, Nedungadu had 30,608 registered voters in 2021, of whom 26,544 cast their votes.
