Unauthorised vehicles on Shimla sealed roads to face ₹10k fine
Shimla: Himachal Pradesh governor Kavinder Gupta has given assent to The Shimla Road Users and Pedestrians (Public Safety and Convenience) Amendment Bill, 2026, paving the way for stricter penalties for vehicles entering sealed and restricted roads in the district without valid permission.Under the new provisions, anyone found driving a vehicle on a sealed road without a valid pass will face a penalty of Rs 10,000, while violations on restricted roads will attract a fine of Rs 5,000. The state govt notified the Act in the Official Gazette on Wednesday. The bill was passed by the state legislative assembly on April 1 during the budget session. The amended law aims to strengthen pedestrian safety and regulate vehicular movement in the hill town's restricted areas. Increase in pass feeThe act also significantly increases annual pass fees for private vehicles. The fee for sealed roads has been raised from Rs 2,500 to Rs 10,000 per year, while for restricted roads it has been increased from Rs 1,000 to Rs 5,000 annually. Processing charges have also been enhanced from Rs 100 to Rs 500. In addition, temporary one-day passes will now cost Rs 1,000 for sealed roads and Rs 500 for restricted roads.MSID:: 131090597 413 |
